About Julie — From Salon to Film Sets

I’ve been working as a professional hairdresser, makeup artist, and session stylist for over 30 years, and I still love what I do.

I began my career under the mentorship of Edinburgh legend Charlie Miller OBE, where I learned the foundations of great hairdressing: precision, creativity, and care. Early on, I was honoured to win Schwarzkopf’s British Newcomer of the Year, which opened doors to incredible opportunities and lifelong friendships in the industry.

I was later selected for the Fellowship Academy of Merit and Excellence (F.A.M.E.), a programme that recognises some of the UK’s most promising hair designers. Through F.A.M.E., I trained in Washington, D.C. with world-renowned stylists Guy Kremer and Nicky Clarke, experiences that deeply shaped my approach to craft and creativity.

Always eager to evolve, I studied makeup artistry at the London College of Fashion, specialising in editorial, television, and film. Later, I trained with GRIMAS in Amsterdam, exploring special effects, theatrical makeup, and body painting, opening up new ways in which I could bring ideas to life.

Over the years, my work has appeared in British Vogue, on Dior catwalks, and with clients ranging from politicians to Great British Bake Off winners. I regularly collaborate with major production companies, including Apple TV, Netflix, Prime Video, and the BBC.

Alongside my freelance career, I’ve run my own wee Leith salon, Beehive, for over 20 years — offering bespoke haircuts and colour with the same attention to detail and creative touch that define my session work. The razor is my specialism.

As a certified yoga teacher and breathwork coach, I bring a holistic approach to my craft. I believe confidence and creativity come from within — and my calm, intuitive style helps clients feel both grounded and radiant.

With an ever-evolving portfolio and an enduring passion for what I do, I’m proud to remain one of Scotland’s most respected hair and makeup artists, combining experience, artistry, and wellbeing in every project.
